in_between

Follow the artists of Circo Aereo on a journey through visual dream worlds.

Visionary circus company Circo Aereo and the Chamäleon team came together during the pandemic in 2020 to create in_between, a brand new coproduction. An exploration of the drift between waking life and dreaming, in_between brings the unique style of the Finnish circus company to the Chamäleon stage for the first time. We couldn’t be more delighted to celebrate this very special premiere in our theatre.

A collection of other worldly imagery, rich music and acrobatics that seem to go beyond what is humanly possible in_between transports us into a compelling, dreamlike landscape. Different realities are layered over one another creating a gossamer fabric that disintegrates and reforms from moment to moment exploring isolation, fragility, and most of all our yearning for human connection.

Change in our booking regulations:
With the start of the season of in_between, we are back to full seating capacity! This means we are going back to our old booking regulations and are placing more than one party per table once more.

Age Recommendation: 6+

Duration: 100 min incl. Intermission

Audio Note:
Please be aware that the show’s second act contains a whip cracking scene that includes sudden loud noises. Please alert a staff member if you require any further information.
In general, our theater has a modern sound system, which is why the volume can be higher. If you are sensitive to the volume, our team will be happy to provide you with ear protection.

Lighting Note:
Stroboscopic lighting effects are used during the course of the production, which may pose an increased health risk to those at risk of epilepsy.

Like dream scenes that you can’t let go of and that you want to continue dreaming about. And all of this conveyed through artistic precision. How fantastically artful was that?

Alyssa Bunce derives inspiration from language and surrealism; nature and spirituality. From a young age, she continuously developed her technical and artistic vocabulary, which finally manifested in a combination of contortion practice, dance, acrobatics and aerial arts. Her artistic practice includes poetry and visual arts and her pieces emerge from an approach that is not confined to a singular discipline. Alyssa was born in Whitehorse, Canada. At 16 she moved to Montreal to pursue circus, attending the National Circus school from 2016 to 2019, graduating as an aerial hoop specialist and contortionist. In 2017 Alyssa began defining a technical and artistic vocabulary using two or three aerial hoops rigged to separate points and presently she continues expanding this concept.
