Mimoto
Mimoto, the Japanese word for identity, is the starting point for an extraordinary ensemble embarking on a performative journey into the self within an inclusive we. The artists of Circus Sonnenstich set sticks dancing, hoops spinning, balancing balls rolling, and diabolos flying. Powerful acrobatics merge with delicate poetry, dance and rap alternate with moments of focused stillness.
All artists collaborate as equals. The lines between trainer and performer, set designer and acrobat, composer and singer begin to blur, overlap, and eventually dissolve. Sonnenstich artist Olivia Wolff describes the performance like this: “We show the deep feelings that live in our bodies, with love and strength. We rock the stage. We are wild. And we have strength for ourselves.”
A performance with the power to change how we see ourselves and how we see the world. Perhaps even to make it a little better.

About the Company
The Zentrum für bewegte Kunst (Center for Moving Art) is a unique project in Germany. Under its roof, Circus Sonnenstich works with 50 artists, all of whom live with Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). The touring ensemble currently includes 16 performers aged 18 to 40, who are joined by six additional artists for inclusive duos and ensemble productions.
Circus Sonnenstich has performed on major stages, including Wintergarten, Admiralspalast, the Berlin Circus Festival, as well as in Prague, Helsinki, St. Petersburg and, of course, at the Chamäleon Berlin. Their most recent premieres, KaraK Visions (2023) and Journey to Mimoto (2024), were both featured as part of the Chamäleon’s performance series Play.
