EAST END - The Berlin Theatre Quarter

Experience the Broadway of Berlin, the number one live entertainment quarter around the legendary Friedrichstraße.

Since the 1920s, Berlin has known where to go to find inspiration, fun and excitement. Today, the East End has established itself as the city's most exciting quarter for art and culture. Nowhere else in the capital offers more shows, more entertainment and more variety.

Sensational stage productions, electrifying cabaret and comedy shine out from under the glare of the spotlight. Dance, variety shows and theater are as at home in the fascinating architecture of the buildings as the various musical genres and exclusive gala events and parties. Discover all the highlights of the city's premier square mile of entertainment and nightlife.

The association by the name of ‘Berlin Theatre Quarter East End’ is a community syndicate of venerable Berlin establishments located in and around Friedrichstrasse and Hackesche Höfe.

Since March 2009, it has been the aim of this community to build on the long tradition of the quadrangle between Friedrichstrasse, Unter den Linden and Hackischer Markt, as the centre of Berlin’s upmarket theatre entertainment. Nowhere else in Germany’s capital today are there as many theatres in one place, are there as many theatre seats sold, nor do so many hands clapping applause. “We are the city’s premier entertainment and nightlife boulevard,” says Dr. Berndt Schmidt, theatre manager at the Friedrichstadt-Palast. “Besides art and culture, many of the newest, most stylish restaurants, bars, and trendiest dance floors can be found right here. In short, New York has Broadway; London has the West End; so it was only natural that we, with tongue in cheek, called ourselves ‘East End’.” That is why the five establishments - the Admiralspalast, the Chamäleon theatre, the Distel cabaret theatre, the Friedrichstadt-Palast, and the Quatsch Comedy Club – in their joint events view the ‘Berlin Theatre Quarter East End’ as signet of the best entertainment in Berlin.
