Is my donation tax-deductible?

Your donation is tax-deductible as a special contribution in Germany. Donations of up to 300 € are recognised as a donation by the tax office without a donation receipt. Your bank statement, a deposit slip and a basic donation receipt for your tax return are sufficient proof. You can find the basic donation receipt here. For donations of 300 € or more, you will automatically receive a donation receipt from us in the course of the following month.

How will my donation be used?

Your support goes directly towards our projects promoting cultural participation, accessibility and support for artists. In our donation form, you have the option to select a specific project directly. Alternatively, we would be delighted to receive a general donation, which we will allocate to where it is most urgently needed.

Is the Chamäleon a non-profit organisation?

We are recognised as a non-profit organisation by the Corporate Tax Office I (Finanzamt für Körperschaften I) and, in accordance with our statutes, promote the arts and culture as well as public and vocational education within the meaning of Sections 51 et seq. of the German Fiscal Code (AO).

Can I make regular donations as well?

Recurring donations are particularly helpful in enabling us to plan for the long term. Unfortunately, it is not yet technically possible to set up a recurring donation via our donation form. However, you are welcome to select a monthly donation directly via PayPal.

Why does a theatre need donations?

As an independent cultural institution, ticket sales and public funding do not fully cover our costs. Donations help us to keep culture accessible and diverse.

Can I make a donation for a specific purpose?

Yes. Using the drop-down menu in the donation form, you can choose which project your donation should go towards. This allows you to support the area that is particularly close to your heart.

Why your support matters

Chamäleon Berlin is one of Europe’s leading venues for contemporary circus. For many years, we have been bringing together artists from all over the world with audiences from a wide variety of backgrounds. It is a place of connection, participation and inspiration.

However, our work is only possible because people support it.

Only a small part of our work is funded by long-term public grants. At the same time, production, energy and staff costs are rising continuously. Revenue from ticket sales alone is not sufficient to secure our cultural and social commitment in the long term and achieve our core purposes as a non-profit cultural venue.

Culture shouldn’t be a luxury. With our solidarity tickets, we enable people who would otherwise be unable to afford a trip to the theatre to access art and culture .
