Carnivale Royale

This summer, Drag circus stars House of Circus bring their queer cabaret ‘Carnivale Royale’ back to Berlin in a special Chamäleon edition

Carnivale Royale is more than a show, it’s an invitation to come together without prejudice, a celebration of who and how we truly are and a home for both artists and audiences to be unapologetically themselves. True to the House of Circus motto: Be who you want to be, wear what you want to wear, love who you want to love.

Guided by Hayden and Iconnee, the night unfolds as an adrenaline fuelled journey into the brilliant diversity and kick ass artistry of some of Europe’s best contemporary circus performers. Carnivale Royale unites a group of extraordinary individuals into a chosen family that delights its audience with stunning aerial acrobatics, humorous sideshow impossibilities and dazzling drag performers.

Sexy, soulful, daring and deeply human, it’s an experience that celebrates diversity as the heartbeat of human experience.

Age Recommendation: 16+
Language: English
Duration: 70 minutes (no intermission)
Content Note: The show contains comedic suggestions of nudity and sexual references. Experiences of discrimination and examples of queerphobia are addressed.

Chamäleon Up Late!

How to make a fabulous show even more fabulous? By opening up the doors of the Chamäleon, borrowing some of legendary Berlin venue Tipsy Bear’s best DJs and dancing the night away!

On two special Saturday nights during the season of Carnivale Royale we invite you to get your glitter on and continue the party with us.

Following the Saturday late show on both the June 27 and July 18 we will push the tables back, keep the bar running and crank up the music. Through a special partnership with our friends at Tipsy Bear, Chamäleon Up Late, will give you the chance to connect with the cast and celebrate together.

Everyone is welcome, be it our guests who want to stay after watching the show (end of the show ca. 10:15pm), or newcomers who want to join the party later. Entrance is free!

About the Company

In a world where LGBTQIA+ rights remain under constant scrutiny, The House of Circus Foundation serves as a catalyst for positive change. Together, we can build a future where diversity is celebrated, and every individual is embraced for who they are.

Carnivale Royale is House of Circus’ fifth production to date. Their distinctive style has led the company to ever greater international success and collaborations with many renowned circus festivals. It was founded by Germain Iconnee and Nick van der Heyden in The Netherlands, where they both met at the Fontys Academy of Circus and Performance Art. Driven by their common passion for Circus and Drag, they develop their distinctive style of performing and creating and soon recognised their shared mission: to bring drag from bars to theatres and reintroducing some glitter and fierceness to the circus.

Leo Garbo is the reincarnation of all that was happening in tiny but gorgeous cabarets all over the forgotten Berlin town of 1920s and 1930s! Charming, wild and always with a wink and a smile. Cracking the whips, climbing the rope, moving the hula hoops all over his young and lean body, singing and dancing around, all that he uses to enchant and charm the audience. No Spell needed.
